Seattle’s First Hill came to be due to necessity. As the downtown area began to fill up, new residents began to gravitate east and the neighborhood was born. First Hill became a quieter alternative to downtown and has been home to some very well-known Seattle residents with names like Haller (Haller Lake), Frye (Frye Museum), Carkeek (Carkeek Park) and Boeing. Now known as Pill Hill due to its proximity to the city’s many fine hospitals, it started life dubbed as Profanity Hill due to its steep uphill, and sometimes frustrating, hike from downtown. As you can imagine, First Hill showcases beautiful historic mansions, as well as museums, venues and eateries.
A unique neighborhood convenient to downtown and Capitol Hill, First Hill is a must-see.
